HOW MUCH DOES A STAIR LIFT COST?

The cost of a stair lift depends on a lot of different variables, so it isn't always a simple answer. Some things that we will need to know in order to provide you with an accurate estimate are:

  • Do you need a Straight or Curved stair lift?

  • Do you need more than one stair lift (e.g. split level home)?

  • How many stairs do you have?

  • Do you want or need a fold-down rail at the base of the stairs?

  • Is there an outlet close to the stairs, or will we have to add one?

  • What weight capacity of a lift do you need (e.g. 300 lbs. or 600 lbs.)?

  • Do you have a brand preference?

As you can see, there is a lot that goes into pulling together an accurate quote, so please feel free to get in touch with us so that we can figure these things out together!

If you are just looking for a ballpark number though, you can budget for around $4,000-$5,000 for a Standard Straight Stair Lift with no extra options included.

A Curved Stair Lift is more expensive, and prices will typically start at around $11,000 for a basic stairway configuration. With both options though, the final price will depend on the model of chair you select, the length of the rail needed, and any optional features that are added to meet your wants and needs.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES TO A STAIR LIFT?

Compare the cost of a stair lift to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. According to Caring.com, "Seniors [in North Dakota] can expect to pay an average of $12,167 per month for a semiprivate room in a nursing home, which is significantly higher than the national average of $7,756.

Seniors who need comprehensive full-time care but are not yet ready for a nursing home may opt for an assisted living facility, which costs an average of $4,096 per month."

If you are looking for a different product instead of a stair lift, we also offer Stiltz Home Elevators, and Vertical Platform Lifts (VPLs). Both of these options are great and could very well be the best solution for you, but they are also quite a bit more expensive than a stair lift. A typical VPL (with installation) may start at around $12,000, while a Stiltz Home Lift typically starts at around $25,000, although a lot of variables affect the final price for your situation.

DOES INSURANCE COVER THE COST OF STAIR LIFTS?

Generally, private insurance and Medicare do not cover stair lifts. Some organizations or foundations may offer grants, but In most circumstances, our customers use private pay. Some military service members are able to get the cost of their stair lift covered through the VA.

It is helpful to remember though that stair lifts could be eligible as an out-of-pocket medical expense on your tax return. It is recommended though that you talk to your tax professional to see if you qualify.
